Stahlin non-metallic enclosures meets commerce controls’ needs for customized panels, corrosion prevention, and cost effectiveness in water treatment plant project

The Situation

Commerce Controls, Inc. combines the facilities, expert engineering, and manufacturing resources to effectively and efficiently manage and execute our projects. An enclosure was required for filter control panels and a phosphoric chemical dosing panel at the City of Detroit, Springwells Facility, which serves as a clean/drinking water treatment plant.

The Challenge

The engineering team needed customized panels that are non-corrosive but still cost-effective. The challenge for enclosure manufacturers was the team's need for more than 40 enclosure cutouts for pilot lights, selector switches, pushbuttons, and displays.

Plus, the manufacturer needed help to engineer a solution allowing for an internally top mounted panel light and a fiberglass bracket mounted inside the panel door, allowing for a panel intrusion switch.

The Solution

Stahlin customized the panels to meet Commerce Controls’ needs. They cut cost-effectively by modifying the enclosure with 40 cutouts for pilot lights, selector switches, pushbuttons, and displays. Stahlin fabricated the panels with the other cutouts, saving Commerce Controls’ shop an enormous amount of time.

Stahlin also effectively engineered a solution allowing for an internally top-mounted panel light. They created a fiberglass bracket mounted inside of the panel door, allowing for a panel intrusion switch.

“The enclosures are extremely well made. Stahlin made a lot of effort to provide us with what we needed. They made many trips to our facility to discuss our needs before construction. Our custom panels arrived within a few weeks of our order. We did have a few minor issues with one of the panels, but Stahlin came out and corrected it right away.” - Mark Kosciolek, Project Engineer, Commerce Controls, Inc.
