Overview:

Miniaturization of electrical and electronic components allows designers to mount more equipment into compact spaces. The proximity of heat generating components produces higher internal temperatures and makes heat dissipation a critical concern. Overheating causes electrical insulation to deteriorate and shortens the life of electrical and electronic components. As an approximation, a temperature rise of 18°F (10°C) inside an enclosure will reduce the service life of electronics by almost 50%.
